O’Gormans started as a hobby
making and repairing cedar venetian blinds 58 years ago and has
now grown into a thriving family business in manufacturing and
supplying all types of blinds, curtains, swag and tails, pelmets,
upholstery and all facets of window furnishings, both contemporary
and traditional.
O’ Gormans of North Coburg was established by Leo O’ Gorman
in 1947 from a shed in the back yard of his home in St Kilda,
where he handcrafted one of the first timber venetian blinds
for 84 shillings (around $8.40 today).
The business today
is run by his son, Dennis O’ Gorman
and grandchildren, Donna and Craig at 836 Sydney Road, North
Coburg where it has been since 1960. It was this move to
a small shop that was 9 feet wide and very deep – “ a
bit like working in a submarine” says Dennis, that,
with an eye for opportunity, Dennis expanded the business
into
making curtains and accessories which have become a satisfying
decorative
and strong part of the business from then on.
Today O’ Gormans moves towards the future as a leader
in decorating.
The interior environment where we live is
now gaining the emphasis it deserves.
Unfortunately, many
people are frightened of interior decorating and simply do
not know where to start when choosing furnishings,
fittings and fixtures. They often have a fear of colour
and do not know where to begin with decorating.
O’ Gormans
Room Doctor Decorating Service takes the fear out of
decorating by assisting home owners to create
a coordinated
look in their home or office, utilizing the most effective
colours and furnishings and in doing so, maximizing
the value of their
properties.
Decorating is about making the right choices,
rooms can be beautiful, inviting, warm and friendly on any
budget,
but
the decisions
have to be right.
O’ Gormans, the finest in
window furnishings, realize that the average homeowner
saves hard to purchase
items for the home
to make it that much more comfortable, attractive
and valuable and thus we are proud to work with you
to
introduce new trends
and services.
